Using Google and Bing Tools for Improving Findability

SEO probably sounds pretty technical. But here’s some good news: You don’t have to do it all by yourself.

Google, Bing and Yahoo offer tools that help make the process easier. 

They’re called webmaster tools, and when you use them, you can quickly determine if your website has crawling issues, see which links point to your site (which are called backlinks), and much, much more.

As you begin marketing and optimising your website – familiarise yourself with these free tools. 

They’re invaluable and will help you avoid common SEO mistakes.

Let’s look at the two most widely used: Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools:

Google Search Console: The Search Console tool is designed to help you make your website more Google-friendly. 

Search Console includes tools like Fetch As Google, a mock crawler, and Search Analytics Reporting, which provides insights into your top-ranking pages, click-through rates, and search terms people use to find your page. 

Search Console can also email notifications when your website has crawling issues.

Bing Webmaster Tools: Like Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools helps you determine performance issues that may be hurting your rankings. 

In particular, Webmaster Tools provides a crawling report (to determine errors), backlink data (to show which websites link to yours), and a keyword search tool (which helps you research keywords that are relevant to your website). 

Considering Google and Bing account for the majority of search traffic across the world, you should be using both tools. 

Fortunately, it’s free and easy to register your site. 

To use these tools, you just have to create a free account, provide a link to your website, and verify you are the website’s owner. 

Then, you can access all of the valuable reporting tools and data.
